Biography

Matthew Fitzgerald is an Associate Professor in the Department of Otolaryngology - Head & Neck Surgery at Stanford University. He completed his undergraduate degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders from Wichita State University, followed by a Master of Science in Audiology and Hearing Sciences from Vanderbilt University. He completed a clinical fellowship at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Michigan, before earning his Ph.D. in Communication Disorders from Northwestern University. His research focuses on perceptual learning in individuals with normal hearing and the adaptation of cochlear implant recipients. He has held various positions, including a post-doctoral fellowship at New York University, and currently oversees the Audiology departments at Stanford Hospital and Lucille Packard Children’s Hospital. Fitzgerald is also an active member of multiple professional organizations including the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association and the American Auditory Society. His current research interests include developing new methods to assess and enhance speech intelligibility in hearing aid users and exploring telemedicine's role in audiologic care.
