Biography

Matthew R. Glucksberg is a Professor in Biomedical Engineering at Northwestern University and the Director of the Center for Innovation in Global Health Technologies. His technical expertise encompasses tissue mechanics, microcirculation, and optical instrumentation. He has developed photonics-based instruments aimed at measuring pressure and flow circulation in the eye, as well as tools to assess the response of pulmonary alveolar epithelial cells to their immediate mechanical environment. Currently, he is involved in the development of minimally invasive optical biosensors for continuous monitoring of glucose and lactate levels, which are crucial for metabolic function assessment. Glucksberg is a co-founder of Northwestern’s Global Healthcare Technologies Program in Cape Town, South Africa, and serves as the co-director of the MS certificate program in Global Ecological Health. He is actively working with the Center for Global Health at Feinberg to advance Biomedical Engineering degree programs at universities in Nigeria. His contributions to the field have been recognized by his election as a member of the College of Fellows of the American Institute of Medical and Biological Engineering and as a Fellow of the Biomedical Engineering Society. Glucksberg also holds a position as a founding board member for the Northwestern Global Health Foundation.
