Biography

Matthew Gustafson is a Professor at the Smeal College of Business, specializing in Finance. His research focuses on corporate finance, financial intermediation, and the economic impacts of climate and weather. His work has been published in prestigious journals such as the Journal of Financial Economics, Journal of Finance, Journal of Accounting and Economics, Management Science, Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, and Journal of Public Economics. Matthew is an active presenter at prominent finance and economics conferences, including meetings for the American Finance Association, Western Finance Association, European Finance Association, and the American Economic Association. He received his PhD from the William E. Simon Graduate School of Business at the University of Rochester in June 2013, and during his time there, he was recognized for his excellence in teaching and placed on the Simon School Teaching Honor Roll. Matthew completed his Bachelor of Arts in Economics at Swarthmore College in 2005, where he also served as the captain of the basketball team. After starting his doctoral studies in 2008, he worked in financial consulting and obtained a Master of Science in Applied Statistics from Villanova University.
