Biography

Matthew Harper studied Natural Sciences at the University of Cambridge and completed his PhD in the Department of Physiology, Development, and Neuroscience. His research initially focused on calcium signaling in platelets under the supervision of Stewart Sage. Subsequently, he joined Alastair Poole's group at the University of Bristol, where he worked on platelet granule secretion and thrombosis. In 2015, he was appointed as a lecturer in the Department of Pharmacology at the University of Cambridge. His current research interests include understanding platelet functions in health and disease, with a particular focus on cellular signaling, thrombosis, and the role of calcium in platelet activity. Matthew is also involved in the editorial boards of several academic journals, including Platelets and Pharmacology Reviews Perspectives. He is a founding trustee of The Platelet Society, which promotes research and education related to platelets and associated diseases. As a fellow at Jesus College, Cambridge, he supervises medical and veterinary students in their studies, particularly in the Mechanisms of Drug Action course.
