Biography

Matthew Hoffmann is a Professor in the Department of Political Science at the University of Toronto Scarborough and co-director of the Environmental Governance Lab. He teaches classes on international relations, global governance, and environmental sustainability politics. His research focuses on decarbonization, climate change, and environmental politics, with notable contributions including four books and fifty journal articles and book chapters. He was a leading faculty member in the Earth Systems Governance network and served as co-editor of the journal Global Environmental Politics from 2017 to 2022. Additionally, Hoffmann has chaired the board of directors for the environmental NGO, Green Economy Canada. His leadership in the field has resulted in significant publications, including 'Ozone Depletion and Climate Change: Constructing a Global Response' (SUNY Press, 2005), co-editor of 'Contending Perspectives on Global Governance' (Routledge, 2005), and 'Climate Governance at the Crossroads: Experimenting with a Global Response to Kyoto' (Oxford University Press, 2011). He also contributed to the 2014 work 'Transnational Climate Change Governance' (Cambridge University Press).
