Biography

Matthew Ives is an economist and systems modeller currently working as an energy systems analyst at GTI Energy, USA. He applies his experience and expertise to facilitate a smooth transition to net zero. In his role as Honorary Research Associate at the Smith School of Enterprise and the Environment, he teaches and supervises DPhil and Master's students. Ives has worked across academia and the private and public sectors on a diverse range of programs related to global sustainability, including developing and assessing decarbonization pathways in the USA, UK, India, and Australia. His ventures include modeling long-term infrastructure strategies for water, energy, waste, and transport for the UK and the United Nations, as well as developing sustainability indicators for the Forest Service and modeling fisheries in Australia. Matthew holds an Honours degree in Economics, a Master's in Environmental Management, and a PhD in complex systems modelling.
