Biography

Matthew Johnson is an Associate Professor at York University in the Department of Physics and Astronomy. He is primarily a theoretical physicist focusing on the intersection of cosmology, field theory, and string theory. His research aims to understand fundamental laws of nature and their implications on cosmology, particularly through the use of data analysis algorithms that connect theory with observations of the Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) radiation. Matthew's work includes addressing pressing questions in cosmology such as the structure of the universe, the role of extra dimensions, and the initial conditions of the early universe. Over the years, he has held various positions including Graduate Program Director at York University, and has engaged in postdoctoral research at the Perimeter Institute and California Institute of Technology. He has received awards including the Buchalter Cosmology Prize and a Discovery Grant from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC). Matthew is also involved in teaching and mentoring students, promoting diversity in physics, and has organized workshops and seminars in his field.
