Matthew Kyan received a B.Sc. in Computer Science and a B.Eng. followed by a PhD in Electrical Engineering from the University of Sydney, Australia. His research focuses on addressing challenges related to the efficient organization and management of media-rich datasets, as well as developing natural and intuitive modes for human-computer interaction and computer-mediated interaction. Notably, he won the Siemens National Prize for Innovation in Australia in 1999 for his work with 3D confocal image analysis. He is a member of several IEEE societies including the Signal Processing Society, Computational Intelligence Society, and the Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society, and currently serves as Treasurer for the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society, Toronto Chapter. Prior to his appointment at Lassonde, he worked at Ryerson University where he played an instrumental role in establishing the Centre for Interactive Multimedia Information Mining (CIM2) in 2008.
