Biography

Matthew Leigh is a PhD student at the Department of Nuclear and Particle Physics at the University of Geneva, having begun his studies there in 2021 after completing a Master’s degree from the University of Cape Town, awarded with distinction in 2019. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Physics and Mathematics from the University of Cape Town in 2016 and completed an extra Honor's year in Physics in 2017. Matthew is a member of the ATLAS group, which is involved in cutting-edge research within the field of particle physics. He holds a Swiss Government Excellence Scholarship, enabling him to support his research endeavors. His research interests focus on deep learning applications in physics, including reinforcement learning. Through his work on the RODEM project, he explores robust deep density models, contributing to advancements in high-energy and solar physics.
