Biography

Matthew Levendusky is a Professor and holds the Stephen Mary Baran Chair in Institutions and Democracy at the Annenberg Public Policy Center of the University of Pennsylvania. He previously served as the Penny and Robert Fox Director of the Fels Institute of Government from 2018 to 2023 and has been a Distinguished Fellow of Institutions and Democracy at the Annenberg Public Policy Center from 2017 to 2019. Professor Levendusky was an associate professor from 2013 to 2018 and an assistant professor of Political Science at Penn from 2007 to 2013. He also worked as a postdoctoral research associate at the Center for the Study of American Politics at Yale University from 2006 to 2007. He obtained his Ph.D. from Stanford University in 2006 and his BA (with highest honors) from Pennsylvania State University in 2001. Professor Levendusky regularly teaches courses related to American politics, focusing on public opinion, political polarization, and media politics. His research examines how institutions and elites affect political behavior among ordinary citizens, particularly in the contexts of mass polarization and the impact of partisan media on voter behavior.
