Biography

Matthew J. Michaels is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Neurology in the Department of Neurology at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. He serves as the Associate Program Director of the Neurocritical Care Fellowship and is also the Course Director for ITD 341 Medical Student Neurocritical Care rotation. Additionally, he holds the position of Associate Medical Director of the Neurointensive Care Unit at Penn Presbyterian Medical Center. Dr. Michaels completed his education in Radiologic Sciences at Trocaire College, earning an A.A.S. degree in 1999, followed by a B.S. in Biology from the State University of New York College at Fredonia in 2002. He earned his D.O. from the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2008 and has undergone extensive post-graduate training with numerous fellowships, including Pulmonary & Critical Care Medicine and Neurocritical Care at Rutgers and the University of Pennsylvania Health System. His clinical expertise includes mechanical ventilation, acute lung injury, flexible bronchoscopy, and managing conditions such as intracranial hypertension and septic shock.
