Dr. Matthew Murphy

Biography

Matthew Murphy is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Medicine and the Department of Behavioral Social Sciences at Brown University. He is also a staff physician at the Rhode Island Department of Corrections, where he manages various population health programs, including HIV prevention, Hepatitis C treatment, and gender-affirming care. Dr. Murphy has held several public health leadership positions, including Director of Research for Brown's Internal Medicine Residency program. He has significant experience conducting research and providing care to marginalized populations both in the United States and internationally, including work supported by the NIH, CDC, and WHO. Dr. Murphy's research primarily focuses on reducing health disparities among multiply marginalized populations. He has published numerous articles in reputable journals such as The Lancet and the Bulletin of the World Health Organization. His contributions to public health have earned him national recognition from the United States Public Health Service and the American Medical Association. Dr. Murphy is fluent in Spanish, French, and Arabic, skills he developed through his global health work and education, which includes a Master's degree from the University of Granada and involvement with European health initiatives.
