Biography

Matthew Ng is a Senior Lecturer and Scientia Fellow at the City Futures Research Centre, University of New South Wales. He holds a PhD in Spatial Data Science from the Bartlett Centre for Advanced Spatial Analysis at University College London and a Master's in International Planning. His research focuses on the application of spatial analytics, machine learning, and artificial intelligence to understand patterns in housing, planning, transport, and property markets. Since joining UNSW in 2020, he has significantly contributed to applied research, particularly advising the NSW Government on housing supply strategies and addressing issues such as rental vulnerability and homelessness. Matthew leads the Asia-Pacific Colouring Cities Research Programme, collaborating with the Alan Turing Institute and engaging various researchers and data custodians to enhance the usability and reliability of urban data. He is keen to supervise research students interested in spatial modelling, housing systems, urban data infrastructure, and applied machine learning.
