Biography

Matthew Pan is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Queen’s University and a core member of the Ingenuity Labs Research Institute. His research expertise encompasses human-robot interaction, haptics, and virtual/augmented reality, with a focus on developing augmentative technologies. He leads the Machine Intelligence and Human-Robot Interaction Laboratory (MItHRIL) where he explores various intersections of robotics and human interfaces. Prior to joining Queen's University, he worked at Disney Research Los Angeles, contributing to projects that combined animatronic technologies with guest-facing interactive experiences at Disney Parks. Matthew holds both MASc and PhD degrees in Mechanical Engineering from a Vancouver institution, and a BASc in Mechatronics Engineering from the University of Waterloo. His earlier research delved into haptic displays, psychophysiological computing, assistive robotics, and human-computer interaction. Matthew is actively involved in research collaborations and provides insights into the operation of robotic systems.
