Matthew Rosen is an Instructor and the Assistant Director of the Urban Design Workshop at Yale University's School of Architecture. He is the founder of Twenty Calvin, a design practice based in Brooklyn, New York, that focuses on the production of buildings, interiors, and landscapes. Rosen’s work is driven by an exploration of aesthetics and is informed by an elemental approach that emphasizes methodology, ethics, and subjective experience. Before establishing Twenty Calvin, he gained experience at Herzog & de Meuron in Basel, Switzerland. Independently, his research has centered on the tools and techniques used throughout the design process, examining how various technologies and methods influence the outcomes produced by designers. His work has been showcased at prominent events such as the Salone del Mobile in Milan and Art Basel in Miami, as well as in exhibitions at the Carpenter Center for the Visual Arts and Takanaka Gallery in Tokyo. He was selected for the VIP development program at Harvard University’s Innovation Lab and was a finalist for the Plimpton-Poorvu Prize for design, earning the AIA Medal for Academic Excellence. Rosen holds a Master of Architecture from Harvard University’s Graduate School of Design and a Bachelor of Science in Architecture with honors from the University at Buffalo.
