Biography

Matthew Scarpelli is an Assistant Professor in Medical Physics at the School of Health Sciences at Purdue University. He obtained his Bachelor of Science in Engineering degree in Nuclear Engineering and Radiologic Sciences from the University of Michigan and his Ph.D. in Medical Physics from the University of Wisconsin. Following his doctoral studies, he completed postdoctoral work at the Barrow Neurological Institute in Phoenix, Arizona. His research focuses on the development of new diagnostic and therapeutic tools to treat diseases using electromagnetic radiation. He has specific interests in investigating the role of the immune system's biological response to radiation, understanding the mechanisms underlying the radiotherapy-induced abscopal effect, as well as developing molecular and functional imaging approaches to assess the immune system and tissue perfusion, respectively.
