Biography

Matthew Taylor is a Full Professor in the Faculty of Science at the University of Alberta, specializing in Computing Science. He has been working in the area of reinforcement learning and multi-agent systems since 2003, obtaining his PhD in 2008. His academic career includes postdoctoral research and professorships at both small colleges and larger universities, alongside industry experience. Currently, he directs the Intelligent Robot Learning Lab and holds the Canada CIFAR AI Chair at the Alberta Machine Intelligence Institute (Amii), where he is also a Fellow-in-Residence. His fundamental research interests encompass reinforcement learning, human-in-the-loop AI, multi-agent systems, and robotics. Additionally, his applied research interests focus on implementing advanced machine learning techniques in collaboration with academic labs and companies, aiming to generate immediate benefits from these innovations. He teaches various courses within the computing science department, including CMPUT 499 and CMPUT 654.
