Biography

Matthew Watson is a Professor of Political Economy at the University of Warwick and an Economic and Social Research Council Professorial Fellow from 2013 to 2019. He has been a faculty member since January 2007 after completing his PhD at the University of Birmingham. His research covers the intersection of political economy and historical thought, particularly focusing on how modern economic institutions, particularly the market, are perceived and interact with everyday experiences. His recent publications include 'False Prophets Economics Imperialism: Limits Mathematical Market Models' published in summer 2024, as well as works such as 'Market' (2018), 'Uneconomic Economics Crisis Model World' (2014), 'Political Economy International Capital Mobility' (2007), and 'Foundations International Political Economy' (2005). He has supervised thirty-nine PhD students to completion and mentored twenty-one Postdoctoral Fellows, showcasing his commitment to nurturing the next generation of researchers in political economy and related fields.
