Dr. Matthew Wegener

Biography

Matthew Wegener is an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Business at the University of New Brunswick (UNB). He holds a Ph.D. in Business Administration (Accounting) from HEC Montréal, a Master of Science in Management (Accounting), and a Bachelor of Accounting from Brock University. His research primarily focuses on corporate social responsibility reporting, exploring the potential benefits to shareholders and relevant stakeholders. Dr. Wegener is particularly interested in the impact of disclosed information on multiple stakeholder groups and the quality of such reporting. He has presented his research at various prestigious conferences, including the Canadian Academic Accounting Association Annual Conference and the Administrative Sciences Association of Canada Conferences, where he was awarded for his work. He has published in renowned journals like Accounting Perspectives and is committed to a student-centered approach to teaching, emphasizing the role of facilitator in education. In addition to his teaching, Dr. Wegener is active in scholarship concerning pedagogy and has contributed to publications in the field of Accounting Education. He joined the Faculty of Business at UNB in 2015.
