Biography

Matthew Weston has 25 years of combined experience working as a practitioner in elite sports along with university teaching and research positions. His applied roles have included Head Sports Scientist for the Professional Game Match Officials in England, Senior Football Researcher at the Aspire Academy in Qatar, and Director of Sports Science for the Professional Referee Organization in the USA. In addition to his applied practice, Matthew was a sports scientist for the FIFA 2003 World Youth Championships in the UAE and the 2006 FIFA Football World Cup in Germany. He has held university roles such as Reader in Exercise Science at Teesside University and has undertaken research on FIFA-sponsored projects focusing on soccer referees at Katholieke Universiteit Leuven in Belgium. Matthew is an accredited Sport and Exercise Scientist with the British Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences (BASES) and was awarded a BASES Fellowship in 2018. He is committed to advancing the knowledge and application of sports science in various contexts, particularly with respect to performance and conditioning in competitive sports.
