Biography

Matthias Baud is an Associate Professor of Medicinal Chemistry and Chemical Biology at the University of Southampton. He obtained his Bachelor's degree from the University of Besançon in France in 2006 and completed his Master's degree at École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne in 2008. Matthias pursued his PhD at Imperial College London under the supervision of Professor Matthew Fuchter, focusing on the development of new chemical probes in the field of epigenetics, which he completed in 2011. Following his doctorate, he worked at the University of Cambridge with Professor Alessio Ciulli and had a brief tenure at the University of Dundee's School of Life Sciences. From 2013 to 2016, he held an MRC Career Development Fellowship at the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology in Cambridge, where his research concentrated on the investigation of protein reactivation with small molecules for oncology applications. He joined the School of Chemistry at the University of Southampton in September 2016 and was promoted to Associate Professor in 2022. His research emphasizes the use of synthetic organic chemistry and biophysical techniques to modulate proteins’ physiological activity, primarily aimed at advancing tools for studying proteins’ functions in living systems, especially in relation to cancer.
