Biography

Matthias Bauer holds a state exam degree in English History from Münster University (1984) and an M.A. in English Literature from Yale University (1985). He earned his PhD in 1990, supervised by Inge Leimberg, and completed his Habilitation in 1999 at Münster. He became a Professor of English Literature and Culture at Saarland University from 2001 to 2004 and has been a Professor at the University of Tübingen since 2004. Currently, he serves as the spokesperson for the Modern Languages Faculty in the Humanities. His teaching and research focus on Early Modern English literature, particularly Shakespeare and his contemporaries, as well as nineteenth-century literature with an emphasis on Dickens. He is particularly interested in aesthetics, co-creativity, and the relationship between language and literature.
