Biography

Matthias Christandl is a Professor in the Department of Mathematical Sciences at the University of Copenhagen. He serves as the Center Leader for the Quantum Life Center funded by the Novo Nordisk Foundation and is a co-Principal Investigator at the VILLUM Foundation research centre QMATH. He is also leading the UCPH Quantum Hub, which is a collaborative initiative across departments and faculties. Christandl was previously an Assistant Professor at ETH Zurich from 2010 to 2014 and held positions at the University of Munich and the University of Cambridge. He holds a PhD from the University of Cambridge and a Diploma from ETH Zurich. His research focuses on the interplay of quantum mechanics and information processing and includes significant contributions to algorithmic, cryptographic, and information-theoretical foundations. His recent interests have been in the application of tensor networks and quantum mechanics in computational theories. Christandl has received multiple grants from the European Research Council and has been elected to the Royal Danish Academy of Sciences and Letters.
