Dr. Matthias Gromeier

Biography

Matthias Gromeier is the Cless Family Distinguished Professor of Neuro-Oncology at Duke Cancer Institute. He is a classically trained virologist with a focus on understanding the molecular mechanisms of RNA virus pathogenesis. His career has been dedicated to unraveling the complex interactions between RNA viruses and host cells, particularly in the context of developing cancer immunotherapy and vaccine design. His research encompasses the areas of translation regulation, mRNA metabolism, viral RNA sensing, innate immunity, and cancer immunology. Gromeier's laboratory supports an ambitious clinical translational research program and is involved in multiple active clinical trials addressing various cancer indications. He has held several prominent positions at the School of Medicine since 1999, including roles in Neurosurgery, Cell Biology, Molecular Genetics and Microbiology, and Medicine. Gromeier's innovative research contributions have resulted in numerous publications and awards throughout his distinguished academic career.
