Biography

Matthias Hüning has been a university professor for Dutch linguistics at the Institute for German and Dutch Philology at the Free University of Berlin since October 2000. He studied German studies and Dutch studies in Bonn, Cologne, and Leiden, Netherlands, from 1982 to 1989. He worked at the Dutch department of the Rijksuniversiteit Leiden from 1990 to 1995, followed by a position as a university assistant in the Department of German Studies/Dutch Studies at the University of Vienna from 1995 to 2000. His research focuses on Dutch linguistics with an emphasis on language comparison, particularly between Dutch and German, historical linguistics, language change, morphology, word formation, and sociolinguistics.
