Biography

Matthias Leese is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Humanities, Social and Political Sciences at ETH Zurich. His research focuses on the effects of digital technologies on social order, with particular attention to security organizations and the rationales and practices that co-constitute technological and social dynamics. He has published widely in leading journals across the fields of International Relations, Science and Technology Studies, and Criminology. Leese is also a co-author of 'Criminal Futures: Predictive Policing and Everyday Police Work,' and serves as editor-in-chief for the Journal of International Relations and Development. In 2021, he was awarded an ERC Starting Grant to study data quality in European law enforcement and border control cooperation through the CURATE project.
