Biography

Matthias Morgenstern studied Protestant Theology at the University of Tübingen, the University of Zurich, the University of Bern, and in Paris. His academic career includes a stay in Israel, a pastoral position in the Evangelical Church in Württemberg, and his studies in Jewish Studies at the College of Jewish Studies in Heidelberg and the Free University of Berlin, where he completed his dissertation in 1995 and his habilitation in 2000 at Goethe University Frankfurt. He held a guest professorship at Université Charles-De Gaulle/Lille III in March 2007. His research interests include rabbinic literature, Jewish-Christian dialogue, and contemporary Israeli literature. He has published extensively on the influence of the Hebrew Bible, rabbinic law, and various aspects of Jewish philosophy and thought.
