Biography

Matthias Sweet is an Associate Professor and Co-Director of the TransForm Research Laboratory at the School of Urban and Regional Planning at Toronto Metropolitan University. He holds a BA, MA, and PhD and specializes in a variety of urban studies fields including transportation policy, travel behaviour, land use planning, and urban economics. His research incorporates an investigation of transportation services and their interaction with land use, as well as their influence on regional spatial structure, firm location decisions, and regional economic growth. Currently, Professor Sweet is engaged in projects that explore emerging mobility technologies such as ride-hailing, car-sharing, and automated vehicles, along with telework, transportation finance, and sustainable mobility. He actively guides students in conducting applied research related to transportation planning, particularly through the lab he co-directs.
