Biography

Matthieu Gillabert holds a bilingual Bachelor's degree in History and Philosophy (2006) and a PhD (2011) from the University of Fribourg. His dissertation focused on the cultural diplomacy of Switzerland during the twentieth century. He has been an assistant doctor in contemporary history since 2011 and has received fellowships in Paris (EHESS), New York (Rockefeller Foundation), and Warsaw (University of Warsaw). Between 2014-2017, he held an advanced postdoc fellowship from the Swiss National Science Foundation to conduct research on the history of the International University City of Paris at the Institute of Social Sciences of Politics (ISP, Paris Nanterre) and Concordia University (Montreal). He completed his habilitation in January 2020 regarding student internationalism and migration patterns in Europe post-World War II. Matthieu is a member of multiple research groups and associations focused on student movements and Eastern European studies, actively contributing to discussions on the impact of global student life and movements in contemporary history.
