Biography

Matthieu Ruiz obtained his PhD in cellular and molecular pathophysiology in 2012 from the Faculty of Pharmacy at the University of Paris-Sud in France. He joined the laboratory of Dr. Christine Des Rosiers at the Montreal Heart Institute in 2012, where he developed an interest in studying lipid metabolism disturbances in metabolic and cardiac diseases. Since June 2018, he has been an assistant professor/researcher in the Department of Medicine at the Université de Montréal. He also serves as the co-director of the metabolomics platform at the Montreal Heart Institute. His research focuses on the use of lipidomic approaches to explore and identify new mechanisms in cardiac and metabolic diseases, including cardiac manifestations related to obesity and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. His work is funded by various grants from health research networks and institutions while focusing on projects that look into novel therapeutic targets in lipidomics related to cardiac health.
