Biography

Matti H.A.J. Herben was born in Klundert, Netherlands, in 1953. He received his M.Sc. degree (with distinction) in Electrical Engineering in 1978 and his Ph.D. degree in Technical Sciences in 1984 from Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e). Since 1978, he has been associated with the Department of Electrical Engineering at TU/e, where he currently serves as an Associate Professor. His research interests encompass radiowave propagation, channel modeling for smart antennas in mobile communications, 60 GHz antennas, and broadband in-house wireless networks, along with performance analysis of mobile communication systems. He has published extensively in areas including antennas, radio wave propagation, channel modeling in wireless communications, and atmospheric remote sensing. At TU/e, he lectures on 'Wireless Communications' and 'Antennas and Propagation'. Between 1987 and 1993, he represented TU/e at the Dutch Institute for Post Academic Education (PATO), where he initiated and contributed to various courses in Electrical Engineering. Additionally, he organizes post-academic in-company courses on topics such as 'Satellite Communications' and 'Land Mobile Radio Communications'. He served as an Associate Editor for 'Radio Science' from 1993 to 1996 and for IEEE Transactions on Antennas and Propagation starting in 2007. Dr. Herben is a member of the Royal Institute of Engineers (KIvI), the Netherlands Electronics Radio Society (NERG), and the Dutch URSI-Committee, and he is a Senior Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), serving as treasurer for the IEEE Benelux joint Chapter on Communications and Vehicular Technology. He is also a member of the Management Committee for COST Action 2100 on 'Pervasive Mobile Ambient Wireless Communications'.
