Biography

Mattias Thuvander is a Professor in Microstructure Physics at Chalmers University. His research focuses on the relationship between the properties of microstructure in materials and how these properties are affected by processing and heat treatment during in-service exposure, which includes variables such as temperature, stress, oxidation, wear, and irradiation. Thuvander's main tools are atom probe tomography, electron microscopy, and SANS/SAXS techniques. His work primarily involves metals including steels, nickel-based alloys, and zirconium alloys, as well as wear-resistant thin films, thin film solar cells, and zeolites. Currently, he is engaged in research related to materials for nuclear applications, specifically reactor pressure vessel steels and zirconium fuel rods, with a focus on accident tolerant fuel (ATF).
