Biography

Mattias Wahlström is a Professor at the University of Gothenburg, specializing in Sociology with a focus on social movements, political violence, and police research. He completed his doctoral thesis in 2011, addressing contemporary political protest policing in Sweden and Denmark. His research extensively analyzes the dynamics of protest and the evolving role of police in socio-political contexts. Wahlström has participated in various international research programs, including 'Caught in the Act of Protest,' and has co-authored significant works on Pride parades and LGBTQ movements. His recent projects involve exploring social movements focused on achieving a fossil-free future and the implications of politically motivated crime. Serving as a co-coordinator of a research network within the European Sociological Association, Wahlström is actively involved in local and international sociological research. He teaches courses in criminology and sociology, emphasizing crime prevention and the sociology of social movements.
