Mattin Biglari is a lecturer at the University of Bristol specializing in Asian and Middle Eastern Environmental History. His research focuses on the intersection of energy, environment, infrastructure, and labor, particularly within the context of Iran and the Middle East. His forthcoming monograph, titled "Nationalising Oil & Knowledge in Iran: Labour, Decolonisation and Colonial Modernity, 1933-51," is set to be published by Edinburgh University Press in 2025. This work examines the mundane struggles associated with technopolitics in Abadan, Iran, and the broader implications of anti-colonialism and labor activism against the backdrop of the colonial history of the Anglo-Iranian Oil Company. Currently, as an Alexander von Humboldt Fellow, Biglari is engaged in a project that analyzes the environmental implications of oil refining in the Indian Ocean and its links to decolonization and environmental justice. He actively teaches several courses related to these themes, including a special subject on Iran's historical context from 1901 to 1951, and supervises various dissertation projects in related areas. Biglari previously held a postdoctoral research position at SOAS, University of London, after earning his PhD and MA in Near and Middle Eastern Studies and a BA in History from the University of Cambridge.
