Biography

Maureen Connolly is a Professor in the Department of Kinesiology at Brock University. Her research and teaching focus on curriculum, embodiment, dance and movement education, and Freirian approaches to teaching and learning. She employs theoretical frameworks such as semiotic, phenomenological, post/anti-colonial, and employs narrative arts-based inquiry and poetic bodily expressive modalities in her work. Maureen has received several accolades, including the National Teaching Award in 2009 and served as an Erasmus Mundus scholar. Her most recent research explores inclusion in physical education, critical pedagogies, and arts-based research. Connolly has published various works examining student learning and engagement, as well as the challenges of reflection in sustaining commitment to learning. Beyond her academic pursuits, she is deeply passionate about training, reading, and engaging authentically with her students and colleagues. Maureen also coordinates the 3M National Student Fellows program at Brock University, combining experiential contexts with academic excellence in the realm of Adapted Physical Activity and Critical Disability Studies.
