Biography

Maureen Fizzell is a retired faculty member from the Beedie School of Business at Simon Fraser University, where she joined in 1993 after serving as an assistant professor at the University of Saskatchewan. With a passion for teaching, she particularly enjoys working with introductory accounting students and has authored a widely used textbook, "Financial Accounting: User Perspective," in Canadian universities. Fizzell has been recognized for her teaching excellence, awarded the TD Canada Trust Distinguished Teaching Award in 1996. During her tenure, she also held the position of Associate Dean for undergraduate programs, which allowed her to engage in strategic discussions at various levels within the university. A certified management accountant, she was awarded the title of Fellow of the Society of Management Accountants in 2004 for her strategic leadership and contributions to the field of management accounting. Maureen played a vital role in the amalgamation of accounting bodies in Canada, leading to the establishment of the Chartered Professional Accountant designation.
