Dr. Maureen Silcoff

Biography

Maureen Silcoff is a skilled expert in public interest litigation, immigration law, and refugee law, serving as an instructor at the Lincoln Alexander School of Law, Toronto Metropolitan University since 2021. Her educational contributions include designing and teaching courses focused on public interest litigation and immigration law. Prior to her current role, Maureen practiced immigration and refugee law and served as a member of the Immigration Refugee Board for five years. Maureen has held significant positions such as the President of the Canadian Association of Refugee Lawyers (CARL) from 2019 to 2021, where she managed litigation and advocacy initiatives, and coordinated conferences. She previously was an instructor in refugee law at the University of British Columbia's Extended Learning program, where she co-designed the Ethics and Professional Responsibility course for the Graduate Diploma in Immigration and Citizenship Law. Maureen is dedicated to advancing access to justice for immigrants and refugees, often speaking at conferences and in media about the impact of law on lives and the challenges of accessing justice. Her extensive experience in complex litigation has positioned her as a notable figure in the legal field.
