Biography

Dr. Maureen Su is a Professor specializing in Pediatrics and Microbiology, Immunology, and Molecular Genetics at UCLA Health. Her research group focuses on understanding the genetics of autoimmune diseases using mouse models and patient samples. She works on Autoimmune Polyendocrinopathy Syndrome Type 1 (APS1), a rare condition caused by mutations in the Autoimmune Regulator (Aire) gene, which influences immune tolerance. Recent studies by her group have demonstrated the dual role of Aire in preventing autoimmunity while also inhibiting effective anti-tumor immunity. They have explored strategies to enhance current cancer immunotherapy by managing Aire-mediated tolerance. Dr. Su completed her fellowship in Pediatric Endocrinology at UCSF and holds an MD from Harvard Medical School. She is board certified in Pediatric Endocrinology and is affiliated with the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center and UCLA Mattel Children's Hospital.
