Biography

Maureen Warren studies early modern (1500-1800) European art, ceramics, and works on paper broadly. At Krannert Art Museum (KAM), she has curated exhibitions focused on medieval manuscripts, early modern European art, natural history, and religious and mythological prints. Her expertise also includes Dutch political prints, blue and white ceramics, and ink paintings by Shozo Sato. Before joining KAM, Warren was the Andrew W. Mellon Curatorial Research Fellow in the Prints and Drawings Department at the Art Institute of Chicago. She completed her dissertation with support from the Kress Institutional Fellowship at Leiden University, as well as the Scaliger Fellowship and the Swann Foundation Caricature and Cartoon Fellowship. Warren has published essays on topics such as 'Death, Torture and the Broken Body in European Art, 1300-1650' (2015) and has contributed to discussions on Van Dyck and Rembrandt in the context of portrait prints. She is the lead author and content editor for 'Paper Knives, Paper Crowns: Political Prints of the Dutch Republic' published by ARTBOOK D.A.P. in 2022.
