Biography

M. Alan Brookhart is a Professor in the Department of Population Health Sciences at Duke University. He is also an Adjunct Professor at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and an Honorary Professor in Clinical Epidemiology at Aarhus University, Denmark. Dr. Brookhart received his doctoral training in biostatistics at the University of California, Berkeley and has previously held faculty positions at Harvard Medical School and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. His work focuses on developing and applying epidemiologic statistical methods to analyze real-world healthcare data. He has conducted substantive studies on the effects of treatments and policies, particularly in complex and vulnerable patient populations such as those with end-stage renal disease. In addition to his academic endeavors, Dr. Brookhart co-founded RxAnte, Inc., which uses predictive analytics to improve adherence interventions for high-risk patients, and NoviSci, Inc., a healthcare data sciences company that develops tools for visualizing complex real-world data. His research interests include epidemiology, observational study design, causal inference, predictive models, and data visualization.
