Maurice van Keulen is an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Twente. He received his master's degree in Computer Science from the University of Twente in 1992 and completed his PhD in 1997 with a focus on Formal Operation Definition of Object-Oriented Databases. His current research interests include robustness in data science, particularly addressing main threats to reliability such as data quality and undesirable behavior in machine learning. He has contributed to the development of scalable XML database systems, notably MonetDB/XQuery, and has proposed a probabilistic approach to data integration that addresses uncertain and lesser quality data. Moreover, he developed the probabilistic database system DuBio, which enables the scalable storage and management of uncertain data. As a prominent figure in Explainable AI, he emphasizes the need for intrinsically explainable deep learning methods, exemplified by his ProtoTree approach. He has accumulated a substantial body of work, being (co-)author of around 200 publications that have garnered over 2000 citations. Additionally, he has served as the secretary of the executive board of the EDBT Association (Extending Database Technology).
Includes specializations in Financial Engineering & Management, Healthcare Technology & Management, and Production & Logistics Management.
