Biography

Mauricio de Oliveira is an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at the University of California, San Diego. His research focuses on Optimization and Dynamic Systems Control, applying convex optimization to solve complex problems in dynamic system controls. He received his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Campinas, Brazil in 1999, following a Master’s degree in 1996 and a Bachelor’s degree in 1995 from the same institution. Before joining UCSD in 2003, he served as an Assistant Professor in the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Campinas from 2001 to 2003. His professional experience includes a role as Chief Research Engineer at Dynamic Systems Research, Inc. in San Diego, where he led a large team in developing energy harvesting systems. He has also worked as a consultant for some of the world’s largest sovereign wealth funds focusing on portfolio optimization and has provided research and development support for companies like Cymer - ASML and Solar Turbines - Caterpillar.
