Professor Mauricio Reyes began his academic journey in 2003, awarded a French-Chilean scholarship to conduct PhD studies at INRIA, France. His research work focused on developing AI technologies to improve the workflow for cancer patients. His PhD thesis resulted in the development of novel image reconstruction techniques for respiratory motion compensation in PET imaging. This work significantly improved the assessment and treatment response for lung cancer patients, demonstrating the potential of medical image computing technologies applied to medicine. In the early years of his postdoctoral career, he developed innovative high-throughput computational analysis methodologies in in-silico orthopedic implant design, which were recognized by the Swiss National Science Foundation. In 2008, he co-founded Crisalix, a successful Swiss company offering AI-based technologies for reconstructive breast surgery simulation. His later research includes EU-funded projects focused on developing AI solutions in neuro-oncology, particularly assessing brain tumor burden. He received the MICCAI Young Scientist Publication award in 2016 for his contributions. Throughout his career, he has raised 10 million EUR in funds and authored 350 articles with over 20,000 citations and an H-index of 58. His work has pioneered significant advancements in robust AI and explainable AI (XAI) within medical image analysis.
