Biography

Mauricio Suárez is a Full Professor at the Complutense University of Madrid and an honorary research professor at the Department of Science and Technology Studies, University College London. He obtained a BSc in Astrophysics from Edinburgh in 1991, followed by an MSc and PhD in Philosophy from the London School of Economics in 1997. Suárez has held academic positions at prestigious institutions such as Oxford, St. Andrews, Northwestern, and Bristol Universities. He has also served as a long-term affiliate research associate at the Centre for Philosophy of Natural and Social Science (CPNSS) at the London School of Economics since 1998. From 2013 to 2015, he was a Marie Curie senior research fellow, focusing on propensities and statistics. His main research interests encompass the philosophy of probability and causality, the history of philosophy of physics with a particular emphasis on quantum mechanics, modeling and idealization, aesthetics of scientific representation, as well as general epistemology and methodology of science. Suárez has published widely in these areas, contributing to both philosophical discourse and scientific understanding.
