Biography

Maurizio Chioccioli is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Comparative Medicine at Yale School of Medicine. His research focuses on understanding the molecular and cellular mechanisms that govern tissue regeneration and repair in the lung. He investigates the pathways hijacked by diseases, especially in the context of human respiratory issues such as cystic fibrosis and primary ciliary dyskinesia. He has expertise in biophysics, live-imaging microscopy, molecular biology, and genetics. Chioccioli completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Florence in Tuscany and went on to earn a PhD from the Institute of Molecular Bioscience at the University of Queensland, Australia. His postdoctoral studies were conducted at the Cavendish Laboratory, affiliated with the Physics and Medicine Institute at Cambridge University, where he worked on the dynamic ciliary beating relevant to respiratory diseases. In 2018, he joined the lab of Naftali Kaminski at Yale, focusing primarily on lung remodeling and repair techniques, and was appointed Assistant Professor in September 2023.
