Biography

Mauro Baranzini is a full professor of Political Economy at the Università della Svizzera italiana. He holds a Dr. rer. pol. degree from Fribourg, as well as a MA and DPhil from Oxford. From 1975 to 1985, he served as a lecturer and director of studies in economics at Queen’s College, University of Oxford. Between 1987 and 1999, he was a full professor of Political Economy at the University of Verona. Baranzini has conducted extensive research at various prestigious universities including Harvard, Berkeley, MIT, and Stanford. He has been a member of the governing committee of the Lugano faculties of USI and has led a significant research project on the teaching of economics at King’s College, Cambridge for the period 1945-1975. His published work primarily focuses on macroeconomics, income distribution, and capital accumulation. He is a foreign fellow of the Academy of Sciences and Letters of the Lombard Institute in Milan and the National Academy of Lincei in Rome. In 2009, he was awarded the international economics prize “L. Tartufari” by the National Academy of Lincei, shared with Andreu Mas-Colell.
