Maurus Reinkowski has been a professor at the University of Basel since 2010. He studied at LMU Munich, Bogazici University in Istanbul, and the University of Vienna. Following a fellowship at the Van Leer Jerusalem Institute from 1995 to 1996, he worked as a consultant at the Orient-Institut Istanbul from 1996 to 1998. His work focuses on the Republic of Turkey, the Ottoman Empire, Palestine during the late Ottoman period, conversion and crypto-religiosity, nationalism and minorities in the Middle East, conspiracy theories, and customary law.
