Max Spotti holds a B.Ed. (HONS) in English Language Primary Education from the University of Oxford and an MA in Applied Linguistics from Goldsmiths College, University of London. He earned his PhD in Sociolinguistic Ethnography at the Department of Language & Culture, Tilburg University, where he defended his thesis in 2007. As an Associate Professor at Tilburg University, he focuses on Digital Literacy Ethnography within the Department of Culture Studies. His research interests include identity construction in institutional spaces, linguistic landscaping, and the socio-cultural integration of asylum seekers in Europe. His research line on digital literacies explores the challenges faced by young students in learning classical literature through various mediums, including printed books and software-based gamification. Spotti also has experience in teaching research skills courses that incorporate ethnography and analysis of digital literacy phenomena, and contributes to the MA in management of cultural diversity, with an emphasis on language and migration. He co-directed the Babylon Centre for the Study of Super-diversity and has facilitated the work of PhD students on topics ranging from linguistic landscapes to political activism in blogs.
