Biography

Maximilian Auffhammer is the George Pardee Jr. Professor of International Sustainable Development and Chair of the Berkeley Division Academic Senate at the University of California, Berkeley. He received a B.S. in Environmental Science from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst in 1996, an M.S. in Environmental Resource Economics in 1998, and a Ph.D. in Economics from UC San Diego in 2003. He has been a faculty member at UC Berkeley since 2003. His research primarily focuses on environmental resource economics, energy economics, and applied econometrics. He has served as a research associate for the National Bureau of Economic Research and has been a lead author for the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). His work has been published in several prestigious journals, including the American Economic Review and the Journal of Environmental Economics and Management. Auffhammer has received numerous awards for his teaching, including the Cheit Teaching Award and the Campus Distinguished Teaching Award. His research interests include climate change, social cost of carbon, econometrics, air pollution, and species conservation. He is an advocate for sustainable energy development and frequently engages in discussions regarding the impact of renewable energy infrastructures on local communities.
