Biography

Maya Goodfellow is an Anniversary Fellow at the University of Southampton, where she is engaged in a three-year research project examining the rise of private security companies’ involvement in immigration enforcement in the UK. Her research interests revolve around contemporary capitalism, immigration, race, and racism. Prior to her appointment at Southampton, Maya was a Leverhulme Early Career Research Fellow at the Sheffield Political Economy Research Institute (SPERI), where she focused on the intersection of race and racism in British politics, contributing to her forthcoming book that examines racial capitalism in Britain. She is also the author of 'Hostile Environment: Immigrants Became Scapegoats,' which was longlisted for the Jhalak Prize. Maya completed her PhD at SOAS in 2019, where her dissertation analyzed race and racism within the context of British international development discourse.
